THE STORY
This beautiful mug is reproduced from Mummy Bear and Baby Bear the first Biro drawing of Jane's brown bear diptych, which also includes The Orphans.
A Russian brown bear walks across the surface of the mug with a rich tapestry of symbolism woven through his fur, including an interpretation of artist Anselm Kiefer’s attic. An old soviet WWII poster of a child clinging to his mother was used as inspiration to illustrate the harsh Russian winters faced by female bears and their cubs, a time when hibernating Brown bears are most at risk from mankind.
This stunning mug also features a smaller image of the bear on the back, creating a sense of movement as if the bear has walked through the mug handle. Inside the mug is a larger portrait of Mummy Bear and Baby Bear. Mummy bear stares plaintively into the mug user's eyes as they drink from the mug!
