Tv Screen III - East Meets West, Forests Memories 2010 'Tales from the East' series colour Biro Drawing 35cm x 60cm
This colour Biro drawing brings together the haunting memories of different European forests at different moments in military history, where the American Army fought the German Army in the forests of Western Europe and Russian Revolutionaries galloped through Eastern European forests. Featuring Jane's muse Lily as a lone white wolf in the centre of the drawing, the wolf represents 'Nature' caught in the crossfire of conflict. The wolf contemplates the destructive nature of war and stands over the proceedings watching the innocent and guilty on all sides of any conflict. Romanian legend tells of the White Wolf, outcast for looking different as it gains strength from ostracization. Inspired by Band of Brothers HBO and films The Red and the White Miklós Jancsóand and Come and See Elem Klimovas, there is also an implication of a loyal dog's vigil over its dead master.
