The Horse and The Wolf Cub

The Horse and The Wolf Cub

The Horse and The Wolf Cub - After Janet and Anne Grahame Johnstone 2009 Tales from the East series red and black Biro drawing 42cm x 30cm

Paying homage to illustrators Janet and Anne Grahame Johnstone this drawing features Jane's muse Lily aged 14 weeks on the back of a red horse while watching a Russian animation projected on the saddle. An interpretation of 20th century mass produced prints, inspired by a visit to the home of a Transylvanian miller. The 80 year old Miller lived in one room; a 1960's tapestry of Sleeping Beauty hung on the wall above her bed.

This drawing symbolises the human compulsion to collect and display objects. Objects left behind during conflict or disaster become part of a circumstantial public exhibition of the abandoned, where individual styles and tastes are displayed and discovered by newcomers.
